Architectural Windows & Doors in River Oaks, Houston
Historic elevations, custom rebuilds and architectural review: glazing that has to belong on the street as much as it has to perform in August.
What Makes River Oaks Different
River Oaks is the one Houston neighborhood where the street elevation is a public fact, not a private preference. Original 1920s and 30s houses, later rebuilds, and contemporary infill all sit on the same blocks, and the review culture around them is real. A window that is merely high-performance is not enough if the sightline, divided-lite pattern or frame color fights the house next door.
The original stock is steel casement and wood, much of it now at the end of its useful life. Replacing those units with a modern insulated aluminum or wood-clad system, while keeping the proportions the elevation was drawn with, is the typical River Oaks brief. It is slow, measured work. We take the existing openings as the constraint rather than trying to modernize a facade that the street does not want modernized.
The other River Oaks job is the opposite: a teardown or a deep contemporary rebuild where the rear elevation is a wall of glass toward the garden, and the front stays polite. Those packages are premium thermally broken aluminum -- folding or lift-and-slide on the rear, more traditional punch openings on the street -- and they are made to order from drawings, not picked from a catalog.
Lots here are large enough that access is usually better than inner-loop infill, but the trees are not. Mature live oaks, setbacks and garden-club sensibilities all affect what can be staged in the drive. We plan the crane or the panel path on the measure visit, because a 14-foot unit that cannot turn the porte-cochere is not a product problem, it is a site problem.
Privacy glass comes up more here than in any other neighborhood we work. River Oaks Boulevard is a public road through a private landscape, and bedrooms and baths that face the street often want the light without the view in. That is a glass specification, not a curtain, and it should be in the quote rather than improvised after install.
Architectural Aluminum, Custom Sizes and Finishes

Minimal Sliding Doors
Thermally broken 6063-T5 aluminum with German hardware. The slimmest sightlines and the largest panels we build -- the default for a River Oaks elevation that has to look as expensive as the house.

Folding & Lift-and-Slide
Walls of glass that actually open. Made to the drawing, not picked from a catalog -- which is why this work lands with a manufacturer.

Custom Replacement
When the brief is every opening, we will still tell you where premium aluminum is worth it and where vinyl is the better spend.

Other Ways We Help
River Oaks Questions
Will an architectural review in River Oaks approve aluminum?
Often, if the sightline, color and divided-lite pattern match the elevation. We produce the drawings and samples review typically asks for. A bright mill-finish slider on a 1927 street face will not pass, and we will not propose it.
Can you replace original steel casements?
Yes. The constraint is matching the original day-light opening so the elevation does not go hollow. Modern insulated units are thicker than 1930s steel; the trick is keeping the visible frame from growing.
Do you work from an architect's drawings?
That is most of the River Oaks work we do. Elevations, schedules and finish call-outs come in; we quote, fabricate and install against them.
