The Honest Case for the Cheapest Option

A screen room encloses an existing covered patio with framed screen panels. There is no glass and no thermal envelope, so the space stays at outdoor temperature, but the mosquitoes, wind-blown debris and rain splash are gone. In Houston, that is often the difference between a patio you use on summer evenings and one you do not.

It is also the fastest and least expensive option, and it typically stays within the existing patio footprint, which keeps approvals and permitting simpler.

When Screen Is the Right Answer

We would rather sell you a screen room you use than a four-season sunroom you over-bought. If the patio is already shaded and well oriented, and the reason you avoid it is insects and wind rather than temperature, screening solves the actual problem for a fraction of the money.

The trade-off is real, though, and worth being clear about: a screen room does nothing for you in August heat or in a cold snap, and it does not add conditioned livable space. If you want the room to work year round or to count toward how the house lives, look at four season sunrooms instead.
