The product

How is this built, and why does it matter?

Aluminum sliding doors are the product most Houston homeowners actually live with: a wide rear opening that has to open smoothly every evening, seal against a Gulf humidity night, and not look builder-grade from the garden. Ours are thermally broken 6063-T5, built to the opening, with hardware that still feels light after a Houston summer.

This is not the same door as a vinyl patio slider and it is not the same door as our minimal system. Vinyl is the right mid-tier buy when the opening is a standard size and energy performance is the brief. Minimal is the right buy when the architect has drawn a pencil-thin frame. Standard aluminum sliding sits between them: larger panels and cleaner lines than vinyl, more robust for daily family traffic than a showpiece minimal stack.

Most of the sliders we replace in Katy, Sugar Land and Spring are 1990s and 2000s production units, white vinyl or clunky aluminum that sticks in August, fogs between the panes, or rattles in a southeasterly. Retrofit into an existing opening is the usual job. We measure the rough opening, confirm whether the header and the slab will take a heavier thermally broken unit, and install so the track actually drains instead of ponding against the interior floor.

If you want the wall to fold completely away for entertaining, look at aluminum folding doors. If the panels are unusually heavy or the weather seal is the priority on a very large pane, look at lift & slide doors. If you are not sure, that is a five-minute conversation send the opening and we will tell you which of the three we would put on your house.

Sizes people search

12 Foot, 3-Panel and 4-Panel Sliding Glass Doors

People search those sizes because that is how a patio opening is measured. We build 3-panel and 4-panel aluminum sliding glass doors, including 12-foot openings, to the rough opening we measure on site. We do not publish a catalog SKU or a price for a 120 by 96 unit that would be a lie on most Houston walls. Send the width, or a photo. If the panels are too heavy for a standard slider, we will point you to lift and slide instead of forcing a 12-foot panel onto the wrong track. Want to take the width yourself? Measure it the way we do and we will quote from your numbers.

Why this product

Why does this survive Houston weather?

We build these to handle August west-facing solar gain, Galveston salt, and the shifting Katy clay that racks cheap frames.

Built for daily use

A door the kids, the dog and the groceries go through, not a system you are afraid to open.

Seals against Houston weather

Thermal break, specified glass and a track that drains. Sticky, fogged builder sliders are what these replace.

Retrofit or new construction

Most Houston jobs are replacement into an existing opening. We price flashing and finish, not just the unit.

3-panel, 4-panel, 12-foot

Those are search terms for a measured opening. We build them. We do not invent a catalog price for a size you do not have.

Who this is for

When to buy this, and when to downgrade

If you are not on this list, there is probably a better product in the line, and we will say so rather than force this one onto the opening. If a room is perfectly shaded, do not buy full premium aluminum.

  • Homeowners replacing a sticking or fogged patio slider in Katy, Sugar Land, Spring or Houston
  • Families who want a wide opening without a folding system's stack depth or price
  • Remodelers specifying a better-than-builder slider on a rear elevation
  • Anyone comparing vinyl vs aluminum patio doors and needing a straight answer on which opening justifies the upgrade

Questions

Questions about Sliding Doors

How much do aluminum sliding doors cost in Houston?

It depends on width, panel count, glass package and whether the job is retrofit or new construction. We quote per opening after a measure, not by the square foot, because a 1998 Katy opening and a 2024 Memorial opening are not the same job. Call or send photos and we will put a number on yours.

Do you make 12 foot 3-panel or 4-panel sliding glass doors?

Yes. 3-panel, 4-panel and 12-foot aluminum sliding glass doors are normal custom work for us. They are built to the opening we measure, not sold as a stock 120-inch SKU with a website price. If the glass is too heavy for this track, we specify lift and slide on the same wall.

Aluminum or vinyl sliding doors for a Houston patio?

Vinyl if the opening is a conventional size and the priority is energy performance at a mid-tier price. Aluminum if you want larger panels, slimmer frames, or a finish that will still look like a premium door in ten Houston summers. Mixed packages are common: aluminum on the rear wall, vinyl on the rest of the house.

Will a new aluminum sliding door stick in Houston humidity?

A well-specified thermally broken unit with the right hardware should not. Sticking is usually a failed builder unit, a track full of grit, or a frame that has moved. We install what we manufacture, so if a door we put in does not run, it is our problem to come back for. If your existing door has stopped sliding, read when a sliding patio door stops sliding first. Some of those are an hour of work, not a new door.
