When I inspect our partner factories in Turkey and China, I check the manufacturing tolerances down to the millimeter. But thirty years of business has taught me a harsh truth: a perfectly engineered window is entirely worthless if the field installation is sloppy. A quality installation is half the product.
Why does a perfectly good window leak after a storm?
The most expensive thermally broken frame will fail if the rough opening is out of square or the sill flashing is skipped. This is where I advise you to walk away. Do not attempt to install these units if you do not know how to cut a weather-resistive barrier or run a continuous sill bead. We require a 1/2-inch wider and taller tolerance for the rough opening. If the flashing does not lap downward, Gulf rain will rot the wall cavity. Hire our crew if you have any doubts.
How do you adjust the hinges when the foundation settles?
Texas foundations settle. The soil shifts. Our RW6003 side-hinged patio doors feature heavy-duty 3-way adjustable security hinges to compensate for this exact physics. You only need a metric Allen key. You can raise the sash vertically to clear the threshold, shift it laterally to center the lock strike, or increase the gasket compression for an airtight seal against driving rain.
