How is this built, and why does it matter?
French patio doors are still the right door on a lot of Houston houses. A River Oaks breakfast room, a Heights remodel, a Memorial traditional with a small garden terrace, those openings want two hinged leaves and a lot of glass, not a six-panel slider. Aluminum lets us keep the classic proportion with narrow stiles and a thermally broken frame that actually performs in this climate.
Wood French doors look the part until Houston humidity, west sun and a decade of paint cycles catch up. Vinyl French doors are the mid-tier energy answer on a conventional opening. Aluminum French doors are the version that still looks tailored on a house that has architectural review, a historic neighbor, or a designer who will not accept a thick vinyl stile on the rear elevation.
Swing clearance is the practical conversation. French doors need space to open. A crowded kitchen with an island in the swing path is a sliding-door kitchen, and we will say so.
